Join the Brussels brunch tribe at the Chicago Café

In the center of Brussels, a few steps from the animation of Place Saint Catherine, a new lunch spot has opened for workers, students, businessmen, bobos, friends, and families. Come as you are to the Chicago Café and grab a small breakfast, brunch, or a tasty snack while enjoying the ambiance.

The Décor
The two brussel natives of the Houtsiplou brasserie (Place Rouppe), a well-known spot for burger lovers, opened their new headquarters last September. The idea? To create a friendly and welcoming café for a lunch break during the week or a weekend brunch. We sit easily as a party of four, six or eight in the large, heated room with a painted brick wall, natural light, and colored by a variety of vintage furniture, and rehabilitated movie theater chairs.

The Food
A truly affordable cantine, the Chicago Cafe doesn’t take itself too seriously, offering seasonal dishes that are simple and delicious: such as the soup of the day served in a cassolette with a rustic croque-monsieur (multi-grain bread, without béchamel), meatloaf, baked potato, vegetable tart, shrimp croquettes… The menu also features Tex-Mex influences like their Mexican quesadillas recipe.

For Kids
A play area just for them ensures parents a more relaxed lunch time. Chalk boards, books, and small chairs keep the little ones patient until their food arrives: a 6€ plate of pasta bolognaise, a mini croque-monsieur, macaroni and cheese with ham, or a small burger with a choice of fries, salad or mashed potatoes. A note for sensitive babies: the room is a little noisy at nap time.

We Love…
… the homemade pastries that we first devour with our eyes at the dessert bar: carrot cake, muffins, ricotta cheesecake, or sweet chocolate cake, all executed to perfection.
